이번 한류연구센터의 북토크 행사는 2022년 윤경원 교수의 저서 <디아스포라적으로 한류 다시 보기 : 한국계 캐나다 청소년 문화의 한류>를 다룬다. 저자는 이 책에서 한국계 혈통인 젊은 캐나다인들과 그들의 한류 문화 참여를 민속지학적으로 연구하고 디아스포라 수용자와 대중문화의 상호 작용에 대한 비판적 사고를 연구했다. 이 책은 한류를 국가 문화 상품의 확산보다는 디아스포라 문화 관습의 고찰로 보며 두 개 이상의 국가와 문화적 텍스트 사이에서 상대적으로 양면적인 수용자층을 구성하는 젊은 수용자들에 의해 협상된 문화의 흐름을 다양한 방식으로 관찰한다.

This talk discusses the research monograph Diasporic Hallyu: The Korean Wave in Korean Canadian Youth Culture (Yoon, 2022), which draws on an ethnographic study of young Canadians of Korean heritage and their engagement with the Korean Wave phenomenon. The book proposes a critical understanding of the interactions between diasporic audiences and popular culture. By examining the Korean Wave as diasporic cultural practices rather than the diffusion of national cultural products, the book explores the diversified ways in which cultural flows are negotiated by young audiences who take up relatively ambivalent reception positions between two or more national and cultural contexts.
